1989: this wonderful puppy - A Maremmano Shepherd - becomes part of
our household and our life. For a few days we are undecided about the
name to give to this "white ball of wool". Then, after watching him,
caressing him, holding him in our arms, we no longer have any
doubts: NUVOLA - CLOUD, a name that can make one dream.

We had had several other dogs, although this one was the first pure
breed. We did not pay much attention to this fact: we cared for it, and
we cuddled it as much as we had done with the previous ones. We let it
run, smell, dig in the garden, in the house's orchard. We enjoyed him,
and it was entertaining to see him grow and become fully integrated in
his new surroundings. |

This is NUVOLA in 1994: a very beautiful Maremamno Sheperd dog,
excellent watchdog, faithful companion of walks, runs and games. I had
fond of him, more so than other family members. Almost every day, when
I returned from work, I would change, and then do someting with him. We
went to run in the woods close to the house, both of us feeling free
like the wind, we hunted mice in the garage. I took care of him combing
his hair (especially in the spring, to help him get rid of winter
hair), washing him (Always a difficult task!). Then, in 1998, I moved
because of my work. I was coming home 3-4 times a month, and I was
doing the same things with him as before... but something had changed.
NUVOLA was much quieter in all the things that it did. This new life,
for me and for him, continued until early Novembrer 1999, then it
changed, at least for me.
One evening, watching TV, I happened to see a documentary on Maremman
Sheperd dogs. I followed the program with great interest, I took notes,
and that evening I had no peace.
How many truth on life of these dogs, how many comprehensions began
arriving! How could I have lived for so many years with such a
creature, without really seeing who I was with? And do think that I
thought that I had done my best for him, caring for him, giving him my
attention! In reality, I had not understood anything! |
